Quick Launch Toolbar disappears at each boot after SP3 (Win XP)

Quick Launch Toolbar disappears at each boot after we allowed install of SP3
Win XP Pro system.

We reset it (with lost icon sequence), but it's gone on next reboot!
What's wrong?

See if this will work:

1. In Registry Editor (Start > Run... > regedit), navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

2. Find the "Userinit" key
3. ther data probably contains:

%system32%\wsaupdater.exe,

where %system32% represents the path to the System32 folder. For example,
C:\Windows\System32

4. Instead of wsaupdater.exe, the data should contain userinit.exe,. Using
the example above, change the data to: (double click userinit)

C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

Do not forget to add the comma at the end

5. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.

I have exactly the same problem: new install of win xp professional, after
install of sp3, and install of Nero 7 and Spybot v1.6 no more quick launch
after very reboot.
Changing the registry was not necessary: the userinit was ok in the location
you mentionned. Is there any other fix?
I searched the interent and nothing seems to help.

Did you get a solution by now? I have exactly the same phenomenon. Every
time I boot my XP-SP3 machine the quick launch icons are gone. I can
re-enable them by selecting "Quick Launch" in the Toolbars menu, but this is
a real nuisance and not the way it is supposed to be. Something is disabling
the Quick Launch at every boot (or shutdown?). Searching the web only
delivered more questions on this subject, but no answers. Since this is a MS
site can anyone help us, please? I checked the Userinit key in the registry
at HKLM/SW/MS/WinNT/CV/Winlogon, it is set correctly to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe, including the comma.
Any recommendations?

Same problem with me, but I checked and my registry was already as you said
it should be. Oh well.

I had the same issue, quick launch toolbar would not show up once I rebooted.
My registry userinit registry entry was correct already, but here's the one I
added to make it work:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

Just thought I'd help other peeps out there experiencing the same awesome
circumstance.

Thanks!
