How can disable the "click your name" screen which appears after the Windows
splash screen on startup? When I start the computer and leave the room, I
don't want it to halt until I click my name (I am the only user on the
machine.)

Regarding messenger, I would prefer not to have it. I don't use on line
messaging and I have clicked the appropriate box in Outlook Express. Still
my firewall keeps asking if I want messenger to access the internet or act
as a server. Does OE use messenger? Should I let messenger access the
internet or act as a server?

Thanks, Mike Fanning

Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2" Uncheck the box "Users
must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

Or do the same thing with TweakUI.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately the fix doesn't work on my computer. When the "users must
enter a user name and password to use this computer" is unchecked and the
"Automatically log on" box is appropriately filled in and the computer is
restarted, it won't load past the splash screen. A dialog box flashes by
and the system hangs with a screen that says "Windows is starting up". Any
other ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Mike,

It may be due to incorrect password filled-in [as i've seen this in more than 3 occasions]. Enable the option "User must enter a username and password" and quit the dialog [ok button]. Restart and you'll see the welcome screen. Now, repeat teh steps given by Ken and set the auto-logon.

This tutorial might help!
