Questions about XP deployment

Chris

Our company is thinking about deploying an Embedded XP
solution in an EPoS environment. We have read the
Microsoft Licensing documentation but we're still a little
unclear as to whether it is possible or even whether
Microsoft will allow it.

Each till will have an SQL Server db which will be used to
store the transactions and accounting information.
Replication and MSMQ will also be used within the shop.

Would we be allowed to deploy this solution using
Embedded? Are we restricted by whose hardware we can use?

Hi Chris

This is exactly the kind of implementation for which XPe was intended.
Clearly each POS will need a XPe licence and you will need to design your
image for the specific hardware platform you intend to use (using target
designer which again needs purchasing).

Are you intending to use a touch screen connected to a "standard" PC running
XPe or a proper terminal designed for the retail environment? Any preference
of manufacturer or terminal?

You are heading in the right direction, EPoS has taken a large U-turn back
to "thin" type systems, clearly not the old VT100 terminals of old, but
embeded systems which clearly has major advantages over traditional thick
systems in multi terminal stores.

Software implemtation should be straight forward if you have a working
system running on XPP then XPe is certainly possible.

Regards
Chris.
