Question - why do my boots start with c:\windows?

I created a new system, and I find that every time I boot up with a
new boot, it starts up with windows explorer pointing to c:\windows on
the desktop screen. Why is it doing that - as opposed to simply
booting up to my desktop icons?

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by an
incomplete program removal, in the:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

This MS Knowledge Base article explains the issue and steps through the fix.
The article title is about the System32 window opening at Startup but the
fix is the same for your Windows folder opening.
