Logon Problem

Please help me here. I have done something wrong I think, and need to
fix something!

Anyway, I installed a fresh XP PRO SP3. and somehow I ended up with a
singular user 'Administrator'. It works fine, but I want to set up
the system like my other system - namely with two logons with
meaningful names. I thought I knew how to do it.

I created two new users in Control Panel>User Accounts, named DUKE and
THE KIDS. I set them up the way I want them. I can log out and log
in just fine between DUKE and THE KIDS. but ADMINSTRATOR only comes up
at a fresh boot. and I can't log back onto it. In fact, when I boot
up, I expected XP to stop and ask who to log on as - but it don't - it
goes nonstop to ADMINISTRATOR.

I can and want to delete user ADMINISTRATOR, but I am afraid to. I
don't know what will happen when I next boot up.

What to do.....what to do.......

Anyone help?

Well I've done it now! In my impatience. I thought that if I made
ADMINISTRATOR have a password, then a boot up would then show all
users ADMINISTRATOR, DUKE, and THE KIDS. Instead, I get:
1) An error message saying that ADMINISTRATOR cannot be log'ed in
2) When I hit <Enter>, I then get the users DUKE and THE KIDS.

This is better, except I need now to get rid of the error window.

If you are talking about *the* Administrator account, it cannot be
deleted. Or perhaps there is a similar one (maybe it has a space or
something). Do this:

Start | Run

type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes)

What do you see with regard to User Names, Domains, and Groups?

I noticed that 'users must enter login & password...... was not
checked. I checked it and rebooted. Things seem to work now.
I get the two choices, DUKE and THE KIDS, each boot which is what I
want.

Thanks

Yes..., but if you added a password to the Administrator account for
some testing, (the default is no password), then you better remember
what it is, or remove the password from the Administrator account so
it is back to "normal" and test it to be sure.

Someday you may need to login as Administrator, and when you can't,
people are going to say that the account probably does not have a
password so just hit enter, and if you say you changed it a while ago,
but can't remember what the password is, things will get ugly fast.

You are so right!
