Question setting up a home network

mac

I have a home network setup using an 802.11 B router and three computers.
I would like to upgrade the router with a newer 802.11 G type.

If I "swap" the routers and set it up to connect to the internet, would the
new router recognize and pickup the existing network, or do I need to delete
my current network and set it up from scratch again once the new router is
in place. And should I delete the network prior to installing the new
router?

the correct and only answer is " It depends"

Some ISPs use the MAC address of your PC so you would have to clone it
again. If you were using any kind of security or encryption before the new
router would be unaware. If you are running NAT and DHCP for your clients
don't have to clone the MAC address it should be simple plug and play you
may need to point the clients to the new "network". Depending on whether
your network is wireless or not you should at the least use encryption.

I have no idea how one would delete a network or what you would delete.
Basic windows networks are manually configured in seconds by simply choosing
the "Obtain an IP address automatically" in adapter Properties/General
Tab/TCPIP/Properties. If you want static IP addresses then create them.

Simply swap the routers over. The only possible thing apart from that you
need to do is configure the router with DSL accounts details and/or DNS
server addresses, then configure DHCP pool, MAC address filtering and
WEP/WPA.
