Greetings,
Here's the scenario. We're preparing to migrate several thousand users to a
new Active Directory domain. Currently the users are logging into NetWare
servers and local accounts that are manually created on their workstation.
I would say a majority are already running WinXP SP2 or SP1 with a
sprinkling of Win2000 and even a few old Win9x stations. Hopefully we will
be requiring that only Windows XP workstations are allowed into the domain.
In the new AD domain they will be given new usernames. I'm thinking of
scripting this with USMT and was looking for any suggestions or insight.
From the USMT docs it looks like I should be able to SCANSTATE on their old
Local Profile while they are still logged in under their old username, join
the domain and reboot, login to AD with their new username, then LOADSTATE
into the new Local Profile that gets created the first time they log into AD
on the workstation.
Am I going down the right track here?
Does all this have to be done from an "Administrator" account or can it be
done through their own accounts?
Anyone out there done anything like this...or with this large of a
migration?
Thanks,
