Question about creating Roaming Profiles

I have 4 systems that need a interim solution for roaming profile. The
systems are Windows XP Pro and they log onto an NT4 domain. I really want to
install 2003 but that's not my decision.

I am trying to see if I can change the SET parameters to make windows goto
another central machine and have tried to add the proper line to the logon
portion of the "Scripts (logon/Logoff)" in both computer and user
configuration for local policies.

I have tried the following lines on the XP machines (server name omitted)
set appdata=\\<servername>\c$\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application
Data
set homepath=\\<servername>\c$\Documents and Settings\%username%
set userprofile=\\<servername>\c$\Documents and Settings\%username%

Windows doesn’t seem to load these parameters and don’t know when these
items are loaded during boot. Does SET recognize network paths? Is there a
better way of doing this without editing settings in the NT4 domain, which,
by the way, is the only NT4 domain we have left and is the domain we all log
onto. The NT4 domain is also administered by another group in the company and
I really don’t want to talk to those people.

Again, this is only going to apply to 4 machines that need this done to. We
and most others have laptops when were not using 1 of these 4 machines.

a not so clean but easy way: to set environment variable system wide for a
PC
for each PC, login as admin and click
- control panel
-system
-advance tab
-Environment button
-for each set variable
- the New button at the bottom half of window (System variables)
- type variable name and the value
- OK

Finally click the OK button of the Env Var window....
