HomePath Environment Variable Set to Root

Hi, I'm having some trouble with the HOMEPATH environment variable on
a PC. Whether a domain or local user logs on, Windows XP Professional
is setting it to \, not \Documents and Settings\(user name). The
properties of the local user show nothing set for profile path or home
path. With the same domain account, I can log into other PCs and
HOMEPATH is set to \Documents and Settings\(user name). Any idea why
HOMEPATH would be set this way? Thanks.
