Darryl

Is there a registry value or values that will disable the keyboard
shortcuts for shutdown, sleep and standby?

TIA!
Darryl.

Darryl;
Disable or uninstall whatever keyboard program is on your machine.
Look in Start | Settings | Control Panel | Keyboard
Or
Look in Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add Remove Programs

Hi Wes,

It's just a Standard 101/102-Key driver keyboard (it cost a whopping
CDN$7.99). No software was installed and I haven't been able to find
anything under the Control Panel > keyboard that helps. I've found
plenty of links at google for "windows key disable" but not for my
dilemma!

Thanks for the reply,
Darryl.

Darryl;
I have a Gateway keyboard. It has 12 hot keys.
For CD, Phone, TV, Radio, etc. They were programmable
with the old GWHotkey software.
None of them work now because the software is not XP
compatible, so I never reinstalled it when I upgraded.

[[Some mouse and keyboard devices require special software (other than a
driver) to run them. If you do not install this software, the device might
not work at all, or some of its features might not work correctly.]]

The only options (via Control Panel) that I have now
are character repeat delay and rate.

I don't see how your hot keys work w/o installed
Software.

What did you have for a keyboard before you spent that whopping
sum?

Me too.

Maybe the default driver includes support for the Windows (start menu)
key, sleep, standby and shutdown. The keyboard is Future Shop's
(Canada) own brand; cicero. It's both "High Quality and Performance"
:) No CD included.

Previous model that was an outrageous $10.99 On the previous
keyboard, the 3 problem keys were at the top, beisde the function
keys. Now, they're directly above the arrow keys and below
del/end/pgdn. There's nothing like hitting shutdown when I want
pagedown!

There's plent at google about "disable windows key" but nothing that I
can find re:my question.

Thanks for your input,
Darryl.

Darryl;

Well, you've seen all I know about it.

Apparently there is support for those three key options
w/o any special software.

Took a look at Future Shop's Cicero PS/2 Keyboard.
I saw the three keys your talking about. Ouch. :-(

Why not shell out another $10.99 and get a keyboard
that doesn't make you mad?

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Budget considerations. I use an abacus at school; can't afford a
calculator. ;-) I'm gonna take it back today, uhhh, tomorrow, and
demand my $7.99 refund. Then I'll buy another like you suggest
although it's *very* difficult to find a simple keyboard nowadays.
Heh...How many people actually use those buttons anyways?

Thanks for your responses.

Darryl.

Darryl;

You get to use an abacus? I havta use wooden matches.
Sort 'em from one pile to another. :blush:)

Keep having Fun.

Sometimes you can diable those buttons in Control Panel-Display Properties-
Screen Saver-Power(button on the bottom)-Advanced tab. It will have an
option there for Power buttons and you can set them to "do nothing" or "ask
me what to do"
