[Q] BAD_POOL_HEADER when selecting properties of shortcut on quick launch

D

Donovan J. Edye

G'Day,

- Have WinXP SP2 installed
- I can launch applications that I have configured on my quick launch
bar
- However if I attempt to do a right mouse click to go to properties
then I get the above error accompanied by a BSOD
- The same BSOD occurs occasionally if I select an item on my desktop
and delete it
- I have a nVidia 5700 running WHQL certified driver so I dont believe
that is it.
- I have installed no new hardware and believe this problem be related
to SP2 as it started happening round about that time

All help suggestions etc on how to track this down or fix it much
appreciated.

Do you have DivX installed? If so, uninstall it and see if it helps. If
so, there is a new version of DivX that is supposed to get past this
problem.

Hmmmm. I had DivX installed a long time ago. Just in case I downloaded
the latest version and installed that with no joy. So the following
questions spring to mind:

- Just what is "this problem"? MSDN and other sources seem very vague?
- What hardware is this related to? Disk / Video or something else?
- Could DEP be causing this?
- What else could I try? It seems as though something is corrupted as
the icon that appears on my quick launch for the Outlook shortcut I
placed there is Outlook Express's icon. And now selecting properties on
any of the quick launch shortcuts produces this problem. Also seemingly
when I attempt to map a drive to \\127.0.0.1\ShareName

As always any suggestions welcome.

Did you uninstall the older DivX before installing the new? If not, then
installing a new version, although a good idea, would do nothing to get past
the problem caused by the older DivX.

Yes I installed the old version first. Any answers to my other
questions listed above?
