Using Quick Launch

Does it slow the computer down to have a bunch of programs in the quick
launch?
Just saw a computer where the owner had put something like 15 or more
shortcuts in the quick launch because he liked for his desktop to have no
short cuts at all. So everything was in the quick launch.
I started wandering if it helped in slowing his computer.

Thanks

The quicklaunch is like the start menu or desktop. Just a folder on the
computer that shows you what is in the folder and - in the cases of those
place in question - allows you to access the applications the shortcut links
point to.

The answer to your question is generally *no* - unless the graphics, memory
and processor power are all very poor/low/slow in this particular computer
already. *grin*

Exactly. Now if these icons are in the taskbar notification area, that's a
completely different subject. Icons in that area (next to the clock) are
apps running in the background. The fewer of those the better.

That's fine. I have much more than 15 here.

No, not at all. These are merely shortcuts, and do not represent
something that is running. They have no effect on performance.

He could have a hundred if he wanted.

I currently have 24.

If I want to have more, I will go to a triple-height task bar :-D

Quick Launch icons are just shortcuts. They are not like the icons in the
notification area which indicate running programs. Shortcuts do not affect
performance.
