G'Day,

- WinXP Pro SP2
- If I right mouse click on any shortcut be it on the desktop, start
menu, quick launch menu I get a BSOD with BAD_POOL_HEADER
- I have run a full chkdisk and it reported no errors
- I have not installed any new hardware or drivers in the box and
though I cannot be 100% sure I believe this behaviour started just
after I had installed SP2
- Has anyone got any suggestions or anything I can try?
- Each time the machine BSOD's it recovers and I send an error report
to MS and the OCA tells me it is a driver problem. But which driver and
how can I track this down?

TIA

The right-click issues that have appeared with SP2 are usually because
either 1) a third-party program has put itself into the right-click
context menu and it doesn't work properly - SpySweeper is one of these;
or 2) you have an older codec installed such as DivX.

To see (and remove) the right-click menu entries, use ShellExView from
here:

If you have the DivX issue, uninstall DivX and download the newest
version.

There is also more information in the specific SP2 issues forum here:

M you were right on the money!!!! You deserve your MVP. By a process of
elimination I have determine that the offender was the "Offline Files
Menu" context menu handler (C:\WINDOWS\System32\cscui.dll). Disabling
this and all works well. (I did have DivX and SpySweeper installed but
they were not causing the issue and are re-installed again). Do you
know of any issues with this C:\WINDOWS\System32\cscui.dll extension in
particular? I dont need/use it so I am happy to leave it disabled, but
am just curious.

Thanks again.

I'm glad you got it sorted. Thanks for letting me know. No, I haven't
heard of the Offline Files Menu causing problems; I've heard of
SpySweeper and DivX being the culprits. Whatever - I'm glad things are
working for you now.
