BSOD

I am using XP, SP3 on an IBM T42 laptop. The other day I got BSOD with the
message KERNEL____STACK____INPAGE____ERROR. I restarted the computer and got
a message the OS CANNOT BE FOUND. I left the house for a few hours and when
I returned, the computer started right up. While using it I again got the
same BSOD. Again, after an overnight rest, the computer started, but on the
desktop I got the hourglass when I tried to click on Start or any of the
programs in the Taskbar. Everything worked fine on second startup attempt.
I repeated this last situation again this afternoon. I am at a loss as to
how to stop the BSOD from coming back and how to get started on the first
try. And finally, is there anything I can do to start the computer from
another device if I crash again?

BIOS up to date? Could be overheating. Could be RAM. Could be HD. Have
you done a windows update to be current with all patches?

Please post a copy of the Stop Error report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Hope this helps.

The overheating makes sense. Thanks.

I hope I don't need it, but I will disable the automatic restart on system
failure. Thanks
