Latest Patch for XP IE8

Today MS issued patch for Internet Explorer, and included IE8 for XP

IE8-WindowsXP-KB2964358-x86-custom-ENU

But when I ran the file, it crashed my system,
with the dreaded BSOD, NO_MORE_IRP_STACK LOCATIONS

Has this happened to anyone else?
Maybe it's just the 32-bit patch?
Or is this MS playing games with XP users?

I'd appreciate any comments from others, who got the patch from:

I keep an XP install simply to run such tests and I applied it with no
problems.

Thanks. I guess I'll play around with it for a while and see if I can
determine the cause.
Additional comments are appreciated.

Solving my own problem:
I found the solution. There was a conflict between this update and Symantec
Endpoint Protection. I completely shut down the program. Installed the
update to IE8, and then rebooted. Problem solved. One of those rare times
when I can say that I didn't read about a solution but discovered it through
some detective work. It was a nice evening.

For those who want to know how to do it:

1. Type cmd in the Run window, bringing up the black command window.
2. Type cd c:\ and press Enter. This will change the directory to the one
where your security software is (normally installed).
3. Type net stop "symantec antivirus" and press Enter.

When it says, “The Symantec Endpoint Protection service was stopped
successfully.”, do the following:

1. In the Run window type smc -stop and press Enter (the tray icon vanishes)
2. Endpoint is completely shut down. You can restart it by rebooting, or by
doing the following:

1. In the Run window type cmd and press Enter.
2. In the Run window type cd c:\ and press Enter.
3. In the Run window type net start "symantec antivirus" and press Enter.

You can then activate the options you normally use with Endpoint Protection.

I downloaded and ran the x86 IE update, and it told me it didn't match my
version and failed. I went to windows update and installed it there and it
worked fine. Now I just need a usable file for my archives.

Sorry. A case of mistaken identity. There's another BobF I know from a
different newsgroup. Thought you were him. He doesn't have a space. Now
I know.
