Unable to install Worm patch for XP

S

Stuart

Hi, When I try to install the worm patch for XP ie click
on the file "WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-ENU" I get the
following error. "Unable to verify the file Update.inf.
ensure the cryptographic service is running".

1. The Cryptographic service is enabled on my PC.
2. I am logged on as the administrator as it is only me
who uses this PC.
3. I have also tried "To use: Download the
xp_cryptofix.vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-
click xp_cryptofix.vbs file. The script will run, re-
registering several DLL's that can cause the
Cryptographic Services error message." .....This didn`t
work either.

Am I doing something wrong ?
Unfortunately I get the Blaster worm regularly and get
sick of having to remove it. Any help will be appreciated.

.Use Task Manager for Virus removal.
Be on desktop and not connected to the internet.
Press alternate, control, delete on keyboard, to bring up
windows task manager. Click on Processes in the task
manager, and look for the virus file. In this case
msblast.exe highlight this file by left clicking on it.
Now click on End Process. When prompted, click yes. Very
important, now you must do this. Do a search of your
computer for msblast.exe and delete all files by that
name. Make sure you reboot your computer. Download and
install the patch provided by Microsoft.
See if this helps. Please do everything i have said
here,in the order i said here.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi Randy,
I tried everything you suggested.
The worm had been removed a few days previously by using
Fix Blast. Today I couldn`t find the msblast.exe anywhere
on my PC.
But....I still get the same error message when I try to
install the patch. The install wizard comes up then I get
the error message. Frustrating to say the least.
