Putting CD drives on the desktop??

M

Mmm

In WinME, I could copy a CD drive icon out of "My Computer" or
explorer, and put a shortcut on my desktop. If there was no CD in the
drive, double clicking gave an error message. When a CD was in place,
double clicking opened the disk.

In XP, this no longer works - I can drag the disk icon to my desktop
while the disc is in, but it won't work later.

Any suggestions?? This has got to be something simple.

thanks,

Assuming the CD drive is the "D" drive
Right click anywhere on the desktop and go to New>Shortcut
Where it says Type the location of the item put "D:\" (without the quotes)
Then click Next
Type whatever name you want for this shortcut and click Finish
