Excel not running

Hi ,

This message is a second draft of my previous question titled "Windows XP
Not Running". That question had some typos (including the title) that made
the question hard to read. Elmo responded to my previous post. Elmo's post
appears helpful and I will try Elmo's suggestion out at week's end when I am
at work again. I'm trying to get as many suggestions as possible so I can
try and fix my problem when I'm at work again.

I use Microsoft XP Professional with Front Page at work.

I tried to create a shortcut to Microsoft Excel to the desktop but my
attempt failed and after deleting the shortcut, I cannot get "Excel" to run
anymore.

I created the shortcut by clicking the following: "Start" button,
"Programs", "Office", then "Excel". Then I right-dragged the "Excel" icon to
the desktop. An error message appeared so I tried removing the shortcut by
right-clicking on the shortcut icon that was created on the desktop and then
selecting "Delete".

The new shortcut icon then disappeared from the desktop, but when I tried to
use Excel the regular way (through the "start" menu), it would not run. A
couple of dialog boxes later, a dialog box pops up with a strange request.
This dialog box asks for features about a CD-ROM disk not being in the CD-ROM
drive and the CD-ROM being unavailable. (There is no CD-ROM in the CD-ROM
drive because I am at work and did not install Microsoft Office myself). I
tried clicking the "OK" button in this dialog box but an error message pops
up. There is also a "Cancel" button and a "Browse" button in that dialog box
but they don't work to run "Excel" either.

I cannot run "Excel" on that computer now because that dialog box keeps
popping up and I cannot get anywhere after it pops up. If anyone has any
other suggestions I will appreciate trying them all. Thanks again to Elmo.

Sounds like you dragged the Excel.exe file to the desktop, and then deleted
it. Try copying the file from another computer.
