Shortcut links not staying linked

I tried numerous times to make simple shortcuts of my
CD/RW drive and Floppy disk that are located in
MyComputer, so I can put them on my desktop.
I can see that both shortcut icons are put on my desktop
but as soon as I click on the Floppy disk shortcut icon I
get a dialog box stating: "The item A:\ that this shortcut
refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will
no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this
shortcut?".
Same message pops up when I select the shortcut icon for
my CD\RW DISK. Except for referring to item E:\

Any suggestions on how to lock in these shortcut icons on
the desktop? I have not changed or moved the original
icons for the floppy disk or CD\RW disk. The original
drives are where they belong; in MyComputer location.

Hi

Your error might have been introduced with the security update
821557 (MS03-027). If you don't want to uninstall 821557, you
can call Microsoft to obtain a fix:

Desktop Shortcut to the 3 1/2 Inch Disk Drive or to the CD-ROM
Drive Does Not Work
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;824143

SYMPTOMS
On your Windows XP desktop, when you click the shortcut to your 3 1/2 inch
disk drive or to your CD-ROM drive, the shortcut does not work anymore.

CAUSE
This problem may occur if you have installed Windows XP update 821557:
MS03-027:

An Unchecked Buffer in the Windows Shell Could Permit Your System to Be
Compromised or Windows XP update 330836: Shortcuts to Mapped Drives on Windows
95 or Windows 98 May Not Work in Windows XP.

RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft...

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (Q824143) and ask for nothing more.

You will need to find the phone number from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS

In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"

For USA, you end up here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31

Use phone number 425-635-3311

Myself, I just would have uninstalled the security update causing this
(KB821557), it isn't very important, take a look here for more details:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=821557
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-027.asp

Alternatively, install SP2 that contains this fix.

How did you make the shortcuts? Easy way, that should work, is to Open
My Computer, don't have it maximised, so you can see some desktop behind
it, then right -drag the drive icon out to the desktop, and take 'Create
shortcut here'. You can then r-click the result and rename it (eg to
get rid of 'shortcut to')
