Overview

PUI (aka Program Uninstallation Information) is a small utility that has
been developed with the sole intention of allowing users to view the
uninstall string for installed programs without having to enter the
registry, and additionally allow simple removal of such programs from a
simple to use interface.

PUI additionally identifies programs that cannot be uninstalled, and lets
you know if this is the case, without the need for extra long hours spent
looking on authors homepages, just to be told "you can't remove it".

As an added bonus, PUI has been setup to detect certain spyware and adware
components and let you know if these are installed, and if applicable,
remove them, without having to call in the big boy's (although, it is always
reccomended to keep your Antivirus and Anti-spyware software uptodate, and
to run a scan on your system on a daily basis, just incase).

Thanks for this, runs fine in W98SE.

I have a 15" monitor, the program runs wider than the screen. Juggling
the column width helps, but it still runs over. I need about a 15%
reduction in width.

Advice?

Mike Sa

Mike,
Are you talking about the list width, or the main window? (I've only
set the main window to be at most, the width of the screen, but not wider)

I mean the main window, it is wider than my screen. Very seldom does a
program do this, so it's not my W98 doing it.

I'm going to have to look into this.

In the meantime, you can change the startup type by editing the .ini file in
the programs folder

from;

"APost=Maximized"

to

APost=
TPost=1035
LPost=1065
WPost=9675
HPost=6795

Note: if the program is currently running, you will need to close it down
for the changes to take effect.

The height, width, top and left positions are saved when you close the
program, so the values above will only stay that way if you don't change or
move the window.

If you maximize the program then close it, the APost= value will become
"APost=Maximized" again. Until I find the source of the problem, I am
unfortunately, unable to guarantee that the problem will not re-occur in the
future.

Great size. :)

Upon running this, my automatic move is to right-click an entry, for a
copy to clipboard. But it ain't happening. So, Steven, how about getting
me some clicky-copy action in there?

Thanks, Steve. That solves the screen size problem. It is now a smaller
size, I move the edges to increase it to fit my display screen, and it
saves that size.

But I need to adjust the width of columns to see all the data. That does
not save. If saving columns width is not easy, can that be a possible
later update?

Very useful app - many thanks!

I notice and value the small size, and I also notice and appreciate
the stated intention "of keeping things simple", but if adding
features is on the agenda - some suggestions/my wish list follows:

- ability to list and group according to unsafe/manual.../OK entries
in the saved output file (File -> Save List) as well as on screen.
Like w/ entries sorted in sections (unsafe, manual... and OK). Or, if
not sorted/grouped according to status, then how about inserting
labels/tags in output file, tags preceding only the unsafe and manual
entries (no tag means uninstall info present/OK).

- simple summary statistics in output (number of found entries in each
category), on screen as well as an option to include when exporting
list to file (print at beginning of output-file, or as separat
output-file).

- echoing Karen's wish for copy to clipboard ability (Ctrl+C),
so individual entries can be copied. Would be nice if it then also
supported the standard Windows multiple selection features (Shift and
CTRL)....

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

I had a feeling you were talking about the columns, but wasn't sure.

I'll work on it asap and see if I can get the update online for you by the

Great! Quick late night test, works fine! Save output with or without
summary (statistics), with summary also give status labels for each
non-auto items in output file, like [Manual Uninstall Required](do not
have any unsafe items here, but assume it will show same as manual
does:), view sorted list (sort by status), copy C also implemented and
works (but only with single not multiple items, but what more can you
ask - and in so short time! - and completed during the night-shift :)

About window size: I noticed w/ previous version that if I changed the
column sizes, then minimize - restore or maximize the window, it would
fall back to default settings. New version does not. Nice.

Many Thanks!

Bjorn,
Cheers for the feedback ;o)

Regarding the multiple select thing. Unfortunately my tests for sending the
selected items to the clipboard all at once, were less than successful
(perhaps I just need sleep, who knows), but I'll keep on working on it until
it's working ;o)

Thanks, Steve. Haven't yet had a chance to try the new version. I had 2
issues, screen size and retain setting for column width.

BTW, your program SSP- I ran it but maybe don't understand the purpose,
it gives me disable options for lots of settings, but every setting
seems necessary- therefore not disable. What is the normal usage of this
utility?

Mike,
SSP was originally intended to be ran from a floppy diskette and allow
parents to block the features of Windows that are listed in SSP.

Other than for parents/admin's, it's pretty much got no use at all. I
actually only built it in the first place, so I could prevent my family from
screwing things up on the PC my mother got herself. (anything goes wrong
with it..... I'm the one that gets asked to fix it, so I figured I'd save
myself a little hassle, hehe).

Steve, thanks for your work on those utilities. PUI now fixed both of my
issues, the other things in the thread I'll look forward to.

New subject, but you are a programmer:
What I'd like to see is a plain text editor that works with large files,
2-4 MB, and is reliable. Editpad Lite opens large files quick, usually
works OK, but sometimes click on a file, it opens five files- all empty.
In other words, it works, except sometimes. There is another one I
discovered, it works but does not retain the font setting.

Just my rant, I guess.
