Publishing to a subdirectory

Maureen

I have created a subdirectory in my root directory to
publish a group of pages to. I am using FP's publish web
to connect to my site, opening the subdirectory I want to
publish to and then clicking "publish". What happens when
I do this, however, is that the pages go into my root
directory instead, overwriting the files there instead of
uploading to the correct directory. I can upload them
into the subdirectory by opening the directory and
then "dragging" the pages in - however, this doesn't seem
to keep the integrity of my pages, uploading the correct
script that goes with them, images, etc. What am I doing
wrong? I have asked my web hosting service but they keep
insisting that it works fine but I have not had any such
luck. Thanks!

In order to publish to a folder within a web, the folder must be a FP
subweb, which your host must support, as well as having the FP extensions
and you must publish via FP's http mode, not FTP.

These "subwebs" would be for client sites, mostly
temporary, that I will host while they are being
developed. Also, I'm really not sure how to create
a "subweb". I did stumble on that in FP but couldn't see
how to actually create one. The "server" option under
tools is grayed out, which is where the help files say
that you create your subweb. This is so confusing...
maybe I should just use GoLive to create my client's
sites - and skip using FP extensions for those?

To create subweb, create a folder, then right click and select convert to
web.

But before you do anything, make sure your host supports subwebs (many don't)
