ftp publishing error continued

Thanks for the input bu I am still having a problem with publishing my
stie-v8vairs.com- I continue to get the error: could not find a web server at
v8vairs.com on port 21.
The verbiage for the new page--Trey Bosson--shows up but none of the pictures.
I have again contacted the host and this is the response I received this
morning:

Ok, I've found a clue, at least. The only files that have been updated
are on the top level of the directory - when you republished it
uploaded fresh copies of all of them.

What hasn't been touched are *any* of the subdirectories. Since the
missing images are supposed to be in "images", that explains why they
aren't there. All the file system permissions are correct, it looks
like FrontPage just doesn't want to descend into the directories. You
might check if there's a flag that needs to be set (?)

Is there something I can do to correct this? Would deleting the entire site
and publishing fresh take care of the problem?

There are FTP server that FP can not connect to, so in those cases your have use a 3rd Party FTP
application to upload your content. The best way to do this is to publish your site folder on your
HD, then open the folder in Windows Explorer and delete all _vti folders, then upload the remaining
content with your FTP application.

I forgot to mention in this post that the site has been up since April 2004
and I have made many updates in the past with no problem until Feb 4, 2007.

The web host could have upgraded / replaced their FTP server application

The host said that they had not upgraded, so I asked him to delete the site
and that I would publish the entire site on a new slate. I did that and after
progressing through the entire site to upload, I got the message: 425 failed
to establish connection, but my system showed a successful publish.
I then contacted the host and asked him to move the site back since my
publishing did not work.
He did this---now the site seems to be fine, all the pictures from the new
page are there. This is the response I got from the host:

Hmm, it looks to me like all the files made it. I suspect that FrontPage

connects to the web server to check all the uploads - it basically killed
the web server doing that. After I restarted it everything seems to work.
I suspect at least part of the problem are the wildly long FP generated
names for files like vendors.htm_cmp_copy-of-pm-metal-pv-1-010_bnr.gif.

What might work better in general is creating the site with FP and then
uploading with a standalone ftp (or better yet, secure ftp or ssh) client.

I am not familiar with a stand alone ftp---is this a better way to go? If
so, How do I do it?
