"Publish Site" Button is greyed out. Won't allow me to publish.

Using FrontPage 2003

After completing and saving my web page as index.htm it still won't let me
publish it due to greyed out button even with the file open and working. It
won't let me click on Publish Site button under File menu. I am connected to
the Internet properly, it let me do it a few hours ago on a different page
without any problem.

Under >File >Publish Site ["Publish Site" button is still greyed out]

It's as if I haven't completed something. It's worked for all my other web
pages and I haven't done anything differently that I know of. How do I get
this button to allow me to publish.

In order to Publish your SITE, you must first open a
site. Front Page will NOT Publish a PAGE.

Thomas A. Rowe

Because you did not open a web / site first via File Menu | Open Web / Site.

site. Front Page will NOT Publish a PAGE.
Sure it will. Right click the file in folder view and select publish file.
However the file MUST be OPENED with FrontPage.

Perhaps the OP did not first create a web?

Actually you can, however opening a web first is the recommended procedure
to insure FP keeps track of everything.

Thanks for the help guys but I think you're both going waaaay off the path.
I have never had to "Open" anything in the past ever before to publish my
page to Comcast. As for Opening some site, this isn't an intranet. This is
not internal. There is nothing to "open" under the Open Site button. I
tried what you said and I can't get to Comcast from the Open Site button...
So here I am back at square one. So I'm still missing something.

This is what I do: I create a page in FP and click "Publish Site" button
and insert my URL. Simple as that. But for some reason this time I can't
"publish" anymore.

When you first start FP, you would use File Menu | Open Site and point it to the folder on your HD
that holds your web site / pages, the default is My Documents\My Webs, then once opened, you would
then go to File Menu | Publish Site and enter the http://www.yourdomainname.com, then your login
info.

Now we're cookin' with gas! That was exactly what I needed. Step by step.
Thank you so much. It worked! Obviously this was the first time I've ever
used FP.

BTW: Obviously this is my first time using FP. Is there a TUTORIAL inside
FP? I need one badly. I can't find any reference to one in the Help
section. Thank you!

That's the way Frontpage works (or any application for that matter) you have
to open a Word file to work on it, or a publisher document....etc

So that same with Frontpage you have to open the site you want to work on.

Right AND very wrong. Word and almost all other applications use >File >Open
to open the work you had been building. And that is EXACTLY what I had been
doing in FP. And that is NOT how it works in FP, you have to do >File >Open
Site NOT 'Open' like I had been doing, just as in (any) of the other
applications you mentioned.

So in summary, if you are saying to yourself right now, that you have to use
Open Site (which you do and is very defferent from other apps) and NOT >File
Open, then please don't make overgeneralizations like "or any application
for that matter" because it is in correct and quite misleading. So. End of
that discussion everything is fixed. Thank you all! No response necessary.

FP is more like a programming application where you have to first open a project, and in the case of
FP, the project is a Web / Site.
