i had 20.000 mails in my outlook 2007. i deleted nearly all of them and
remained back nearly 200 mails. but previous size of pst file did not change
and is still nearly 3 GB. how can i fix it?

Did you delete emails by size or just randomly? It's not the number of
emails (unless you have a massive amount) but the size of them. Emails that
are simply text-based are not large and don't add much to size. Attachments
can and do.

However, 3 GB is not a large PST for Outlook 2007. Are you concerned about
this size?

In addition to Kathleen's reply;

The pst-file is a database and needs some white space (unused space) to work
properly. When there is a lot of white space in the pst-file, then Outlook
will start compressing the pst-file automatically when the computer is idle.
To force this, right click on the root of your folder set-> Properties-> tab
Advanced-> button Compact Now.
Note that you cannot use Outlook while the compact process runs.
