PST error. Not opening personal folders

We had a power failure where our server rebooted while outlook was open.
Since then I get an error message stating that the is an error in my pst file
and to use the inbox repair tool. I tried that and got an error stating "an
error has occurred which caused the scan to be stopped. No changes have been
made to the scanned file." I need to get my contacts and old messages. Any
suggestions?

Do you have a back up? Which version of Outlook are you using?

This would happen only when you are connecting to a pst-file stored on the
server. This is not recommended nor supported by Microsoft for reasons you
now encountered; it could lead to data corruption or even data loss.

If scanpst.exe cannot fix it then you'll have to restore from backup or use
a 3rd party mail recovery application.
