PS2 port deaf

How do I tell XP to ignore the fact that there is no keyboard
connected to the PS2 port, and to activate the PS2 port so that it can
accept data sent to the PS2 port?

I have a USB keyboard, but have an old barcode scanner, which runs in
a wedge configuration off the4 PS2 port. The PS2 port seems to be non
functioning, even though I can see my barcode scanner's output being
sent to the PS2 port.

There is an expensive hardware solution, purchasing a 'keyboard
terminator', but I'd like to avoid adding hardware and the expense if
possible.

See:

Is this something that can be done in XP or is the only option to add
additional hardware???

Thanks,

Ari

Use a USB to PS2 converter on your keyboard.

Judging by that link, it's peculiar to certain notebooks. So, maybe a
BIOS thing.

And this problem is with peripherals using ps2 ports. Most peripherals
aren't ps2.

If it was something that can eb done in XP then they wouldn't have made
the product available at that link. And more people would be aware of
the issue. That link actually mentions barcode scanners there.

So, i'm just suggesting that that link you provided is the only
solution. Designed specifically for this strange problem you have
encountered.

All fine and well, but that is a hardware solution. I'd like to use a
software solution. There must be some way to force XP to load the HID
driver to the PS2 port manually at boot up.

I'm not opposed to a hardware fix, but there is another problem. When
I plug in the USB to PS2 adapter, the supply voltage on the USB pin
drops to 4.1 volts, which is to low to run my barcode scanner. It
appears that USB does not supply enough power to run the scanner-so
the adapter solution does not work (tried it).

Any one know how to make XP load the HID driver to the PS2 port at
boot up?

Thanks,

A

dunno about the HID q.

speculating - as to why the adatpro doesn't work. Perhaps it's not the
voltage drop that's causing the problem.

single ps2-usb adaptors don't work.

Unelss the ps2 device is ready/supporting usb.

But A chunky ps2-usb adaptor like this one, will work. That's my
experience with those adaptors.

If it is voltage - I hadn't test it but wasn't aware that there'd a a
voltage drop from an adaptor. Perhaps your PSU is not supplying enough
on that wire. So maybe a dif PSU, or flicking a setting in the BIOS
and/or on the MBRD to take ps2 and/or USB off 5VSB(or may eb called
Wake On feature) . THen I think those ports won't get powered by that
particular wire.
