PS2 scanner

Jason

Hi there,

I have a PS2 barcode scanner which fits between the keyboard and PC (like a
daisy chain). I do not have PS2 port so I have used an adapter to adapt to
USB. I can not get the pc to recognize the scanner in system manager, it
just says unrecognized. I can get it to wok on a PS2 port on another PC. Is
this a USB power issue? Is there any way around this?

Any help is appreciated!

cheers

Jason

Hi,

You need a proper supporting driver from the manufacturer of the scanning
device. You might also check whether the PS2/USB adapter is supported by it,
as not all devices are capable of this.

Owe are a barcode scanner distributor and come across this problem
often. It comes down to the usb/PS2 interface you are using. There are
two reasons it may not be working for you. they are.
1. The 5V coming from the ps2/usb interface may not be able to provide
the current required by the scanners. This is a common occurrence.
2. The ps2/usb interface may not be able to cope with the speed of the
keyboard transmissions from the scanner. You can try adding a time
delay between characters from the scanner (you need to use the manual
for the barcode reader to do this).

We have a special adaptor for AUD$50 we make up but we are from
Australia so that may not help you. The other option you may have is
to get the scanner converted to USB. How easy that is will depend on
the scanner. We sell usb barcode scanners from $130 so sometimes
conversion is not worth it.

Hope this helps you
