How do I unprotect windows files in order that I can install new software?
I have tried deselecting read only but it will not allow me to deselect read
only for many of the files.

Hi,

Are you getting the message that the files are signed and cannot be
installed or are you getting the message that you have to be logged as
administrator to install software.

There is no way to unprotect files because by default windows system files
are protected.

What software is it that attempts to replace / overwrtie Operating System
files?

This is not the way things should happen.

An application does not alter the way an Operating System works, neither
does it manipulate any of the files belonging to an operating system. If
every developer in the worlkd did this, then Windows would be left in a very
compromised state.

Perhaps you have an error message that reads differently to the way you have
written in your post.

Do try to copy the message down verbatim and post again.
