Progressively slower computer

I have a 2 Ghz machine and when I first started using it,
it would boot up in a matter of seconds as well as
logging on.
Seconds have now turned into minutes!
I only have the minimum programs booting up in the
config.sys. I have deleted all files from my internet
options.
I have defraged among other things and the only thing
left doing is resetting my machine back to its original
settings which I really rather not do

Any Help?
