Programs won't work or uninstall after Win98->Xp upgrade

Hi,
I recently upgraded to WinXP from Win98 2nd edition.
Games I had installed as well as CD burning software and a
few other programs won't run or uninstall. When I set
them to run in Win98 compatability mode they still won't
run. I get the "Program has encountered errors and has to
close down" message. I did the upgrade install - do I
have to wipe the drive and do a clean install or is there
a way to fix these problems?
Any help is much appreciated.

The best you have to do is uninstall everything and start a new Windows XP
installation, without W98.

Hopefully, you backed up or imaged before the upgrade. You've
got two basic options. One, you can roll-back the XP upgrade &
return to 98. Probably, you upgraded with non-compliant apps on
98 and XP will just not run them. There are some pre-upgrade type
of things you might have missed or neglected to do. If you roll-back
image the 98 instance, then run Upgrade Advisor and remove &
cleanup before re-starting the XP upgrade.
Or - you can try to located patches/updates for those applications
for XP. Stability might be achieved if you update core drivers &
things like Chipset drivers,etc.
However, Application/Exception faults usually indicate some type
incompatibility or Registry issues that aren't easy to solve or even to
locate.
