Programs Won't Install

I am wondering why some of my software, which worked on my PC when I
used Windows ME, now will not install and/or run on Windows XP. I've
come across several programs that, when you put the program CD into
the CD-drive, would start up by showing the program's initial install
screen which usually gives the options to install the program or
cancel the install.

If I click on INSTALL, I get an hour glass for a few seconds and then
nothing else happens. The program won't install and I do not get any
error messages. The same thing happens if I try putting the CD in
another CD drive or if I copy the CD to my hard drive and then attempt
to install the program by finding the SETUP.EXE program and
double-clicking on it. Trying to do all the above in Safe Mode has
the same results.

Some programs I've had trouble with are:

Works Suite 99
Word 97
Abode PhotoDeluxe 4.0
PrintShop Photo Pro
Sierra Snapshot 2.0

I've visited the website for all of these programs and have been
unable to find any solutions on the program's support pages.

Does anyone here have any ideas about what is wrong and how I can fix
it?

Thanks for your time.

Word 97 works on XP. I don't know about the others

Are you giving the install operation enough time to do it's thing?
Try to install W97 again and let it run for a few minutes. See if
there are any hard disk or CD lights coming on during this time.

Maybe your computer is not up to XP specs? What is the speed of your
computer and how much memory and free hard disk spae do you have?
