programs running in background

recntly i've noticed that there is a something running in
the background that is tie-ing up the processor from fully
executing other programs. in other word when i launch a
prog it will run but will stall for periods of time due to
the prog thats running in the background. when i'm typing
in ms word, at times, it keeps the letters i'm typing from
showing up on the screen as i type... like theres a delay.
i notice this when running norton sytemworks disc defrag as
well. i also notice that the processor is actively running
as i can hear the hard drive chugging... any ideas? anyone?

Several choices here, bj.

First right click the taskbar and select Task Manager. See what is shown
under Applications. Then check under Processes and see if you recognise
anything you don't want.

Then go to Start/Run and type in msconfig and hit OK. Check under the
Startup tab for any programmes you don't want running and uncheck them. This
will require a restart.

I recommend you disable FindFast wherever you find it!

Good luck,

Ed
