comp. resources running extre. high

Have a friend that there computer is running really slow.
I have checked porgams running in task manager, though
it shows hardly anything running in the background.
Processor resources running anywhere from 17% - 70% varies a lot at times.

Going to try and run a malware program tomorrow. Is their any other way to
check and see what may be causing the processor to be so used?

thanks Bruce

If the computer suddenly went slow, it is more than likley infected. If
it has gradually slowed down, dust & overheating may be the problem.
Here are some links to help.

Take a cover off & clean out the dust, put an external fan on & see if
it behaves with the extra cooling. Make sure all the fans ( including
the power supply ) are spinning fast, with the power off, give them a
spin with a matchstick to make sure they not stuck.
