High processor Usage

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

A lot of the time my computer slows right up causing me
frustrating waiting times. Upon opening the Task manager I
see that explorer is taking up 99% of my processor leaving
the remaining 1% for other applications.

I find the only way around this is to actually log of and on again. But
unfortunately the problem soon appears, even if no applications are running.

I have the latest updates of sophos Anti-Virus,Spybot,Zone Alarm Pro and
Anti-Trojan Shield, and they haven't pick up any Viruses or Trojans. My XP
pro is fully patched, and all hardware have latest drivers. I do have kazaa,
but Explorers abnormally high usage appears whether kazza is running or not

XP Pro
XP2800+
2 * 120mg Raid 0 Hard Drives

Thanks in advance for you help

Just an aside. But you dont have to actually click on many spyware
programs like kazza in order to to run their "phone home" and/or spyware
applications. They often load upon bootup whether you run the app or
not. Real is another good example. You may have 1 to
3 Real files running on bootup even tho Real is not "officially"
launched.

Make sure your Spybot is up-to-date
Get Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Also, if you have all this protection (Anti-Virus, Spybot, Zone Alarm Pro an
Anti-Trojan Shield) constantly running, it might be a problem by itself

Zone Alarm (the best free firewall) for example is known as a great system resources hog..
And who knows how well it coexists with the rest of the background applications (?

Always keep your antivirus and spy removal applications (link on the bottom of the page) up-to-date, and scan regularly

Sorry, somehow the last post was empty. Your file explorer.exe may be
corrupted or you may have some malware on your system. If the explorer
jumps like that it is sometimes caused by a 'memory leak' from a poorly
constructed program or a file corruption. I'd ask you to post a list of
your installed progs, but that's getting a little personal. Try
uninstalling anything you put on around the time this started. Also, make
sure you have current versions of your AV/Spyware tools, and add AdAware and
spywareblaster to the list. Many other users recommend CWShredder, but as I
haven't piloted it yet...use at your own risk. Good luck.
