msiexec.exe running all the time

Hi,
I have a computer that seems to be running very slowly and when I check task
manager the msiexec.exe file seems to be running all the time and using up
lots of the processor power. I have checked for virus's and spyware with
nothing out of the ordinary showing. What else could be causing this and is
there a way of turning it off except when I want to install something?
