Hi I recently built a new computer and am having some problems. Hardware I
know very well, but have problems troubleshooting software. I have a 3.0ghz
p4 with 2gb of memory, running windows xp. I've updated all the windows
programs but I've had alot of problems with crashing. Internet Explorer,
Windows in general and a couple older games. There has been a couple Fatal
error messages that said windows needs to shut down to keep from harming your
computer. I've downloaded all new drivers I can think of but nothing seems
to help. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Greetings,

Have you tried doing a "Scan Disk" to check for any hard drive errors? -

1. Open My Computer
2. Select and right click your hard drive
3. From the drop down menu click 'Properties'
4. Click on the 'Tools' tab and select 'Check Now' under the 'Error
Checking' section.

Ya, I've ran a scan disk, Win. doctor., and have also updated all my drivers.
If anyone has any idea's please let me know. Thanks

If the error says that windows needs to shutdown and clock begins the
reverse countdown try following:

Quickly go to start-->Run --> type "cmd"
This brings up the command window now type :
shutdown -a
this aborts the shutdown. now try copying or cut paste of any file if this
fails to happen then u infected with virus, run lates anti virus defination
on your system.

Let know..

I just reformated the H drive to see if that takes care of it. Since then IE
has crashed a couple of times but haven't got the fatal error yet. I've read
a couple things and I'm starting to wonder if it's a problem with Windows
service pack 2.
If any think that's what it is and know how to fix it, please let me know.

Thanks
