Program won't start part 2

Papa John, I found the stand alone installer online. I think it is 2.0
though. The whole problem started when I had MM2 running and in the pane to
the left I deleted all the collections. The program wouldn't start after
that. I then went online and found a stand alone installation package. But
before I did that stand alone install, I noticed in the /program files/movie
maker folder that there were some files and folders missing. The addontfx
folder was gone with its contents. I Tried several times to install from the
stand alone package. That didn't work. I then had this brilliant idea to
have a friend who had XP with SP2 copy each folder in movie maker and zip
them and send them to me for me to put the files and folders back in place.
This didn't help either. I then copied the contents of the Movie Maker
folder and made another folder in the programs folder named Movie Maker2. I
pasted all the files into that folder and tried from there to install the
program with the mm20ex.inf file. Nothing works. I keep getting the error
popup when I try to open the program from both folders. Also, I noticed in
the registry movie maker is listed twice as Movie Maker and Movie Maker2
folders. What can I do and what files on the Service Pack2 CD do I use to
install the program again? I can't uninstall all the files since it is part
of the windows operating system.

My Setup > MM2.0 and MM2.1 website pages list the files in the Movie Maker
folder... in addition to them being there, you need to register each of the
DLLs... per the command line instructions in the MM2.1 folder.

You're right, the stand-alone packages on the web are for 2.0, not 2.1...
