You can or your service can reinstall XP and it is still

activated. I bought a OEM PC and when I got it home it
said I had X many days to activate I was in a panic as I
did not even have the Product Key. I finally phoned
Microsoft I explained my problem and he told me it was
already activated, so that was that he also gave me a new
Product Key. All the best

Depending on how it was reinstalled, the activation might have been deleted.
Just activate again.
