program not responding

upgraded from windows 98 to windows xp..keep seeing
program nor responding..have to shut down program and
restart in order to get rid of this.. this happens many
times while I'm online and is really starting to get
old..gotten to the point I'm about ready to pack computer
away and forget about it..can anyone tell me how to stop
this from happening..

Ummm...what program?
Is your system on the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List)?
Is the program in question XP compatible?
Any other nasties on the system?
What have you tried so far?
Clean boot?
Etc...etc...
