Program keeps crashing

Help!

Am trying to fix a friends computer where Pro Evolution Soccer 5 keeps
crashing. Sometimes the game hangs before it even loads, in which case I
need to shut the pc down and restart and sometimes, most of the time I get
half a game in. Then on the menu some of the letters are missing from the
options, I would get another minute play and then the game would crash.

The screen would blacken and reduce showing the error with PES5.exe.

I have tried running with minimum processes and it still happens. I have
every update available including bios. I have also tried some of the
unofficial patches to the exe file available online but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I am trying to sort this problem for a friend who has just had an op for
cancer - no pressure!

Windows XP Home
AMD Athlon 3800
On board graphics set to 128MB NVIDA
2GB RAM

I have tried installing on my own pc and it works fine.

What I'd check first is to see if something being started at boot is
conflicting with the game. Run msconfig.exe and use the Selective Startup
mode. Remove the mark from Load Startup Items and then click OK.

If you find that the game runs OK, your friend could make this change prior
to playing the game or you can try to identify what program is causing the
problem and get rid of it or find a replacement.

In addition to what Ron Badour said, are you sure that your friend's
computer supports the game? Onboard graphics chips are not really
designed for much gaming. Go to the game mftr.'s website and look at its
system requirements for graphics.

Thanks for your help.

Found that the direct x was the problem. It was damaged somehow, but
installed the latest update and ... problem solved.

Thanks,
