Hi there;
i am having a problem in my systems
after booting the system in windows 2000 pro it program
error pops in the windows saying about svchosts.exe and
restart the system. say OK.

I get an error (normal program error dialog) saying SVCHOST.exe failed.

After this error, copy/paste is disabled, programs start but are unable to
open new windows (i.e. I can open the event viewer but cannot view any event
since no view dialog pops), unable to open IE windows, new instances only,
etc. System didn't freeze.

After further examination I noticed that the RPC service dies with the
error. Once (re)started (with MMC or command prompt), everything goes back
to normal. I can copy, paste, IE works, etc. After a while, error pops
again, even if computer is idle. The frequency of the error increases should
I use IE, especially forms submitting.

I have investigated your link and it contains no details about specific
svchost errors, simply machines rebooting, which I do not get. It also has
data about vulnerable machines, not errors. Should I understand I am being
scanned? Anyhow.

MS scanner reported the machine as being vulnerable so I'm patching now.

I'll keep you posted.

I got hit with the blaster virus and installed the patch
but now my computer takes FOREVER to boot up and will not
restart or shutdown from the Start menu. I have to
manually shut it down from the power button on the box.
Do you have any ideas how I can fix the startup slowness
and the non-existant shutdown?

Thanks
Mimi
