Program crashes right after opening.

We're on a small office network, with our own server. One of our PCs with MS
Outlook 2002 crashes right after attempting to open the Inbox. Other
workstations are fine. After initial startup, "MS Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close" window pops up. Here is the error msg: AppName:
outlook.exe AppVer: 10.0.6822.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000114b6

Any help is appreciated. Of most concern is that this user keeps alot of
her business emails in Personal Folders. I don't want to do anything to lose
her records. Thank you.

Have you run a Detect & Repair from the Help Menu? Run a repair of the PST
file using scanpst.exe? That's what I would recommend first.

First - thanks so much for the reply. Ok, the program doesn't stay open long
enough for me to use any of the tools within Outlook itself (such as Detect
and Repair). The error message window pops up within seconds of opening. As
for the other suggestion, let me say I'm an average user, good at small
fixes, but mostly just the most savvy of the folks in the office (which isn't
saying much) but by no means an IT or Support person. So, my question then
is: Is the scanpst.exe something I can run from elsewhere?

Thanks again.

Outlook has to be closed to run scanpst.exe so that would work as a first
step in troubleshooting for you.

What you need to do is be able to see hidden files and folders so use
Windows Explorer to do that if you haven't already. Then use your search
function to look for scanpst.exe on the C drive of the PC with the
cattywompus Outlook on it. When you find it, simply double-click it and have
it browse to the location of that user's PST file and run it. Run it over and
over until it no longer finds errors. Then try to open Outlook again.

Let me know what happens. Good luck!

Well Kathleen, that was a great suggestion - but when I ran the scan, both on
the .pst file on her C drive and her file on the Server - they all came back
as no errors found. Problem is still there. We do have an IT guy we can
call in, but if you think of anything else, just let me know. In any case,
many thanks and have a great weekend.

You're using CloudMark, aren't you? Visit their website for a fix.

Thank you Brian - you are absolutely right, we do have Cloudmark. I'll try
that next. Do you have a pointer for where the fix is - is it a patch
already in place? Is it in their Support or Knowledgebase? I looked on the
site and didn't see anything that was "obviously" about our issue, but I'll
keep looking. Have a great weekend.

Go to the Cloudmark support forum, to find the solution for this (uninstall,
and
rename install folder).
