Outlook 2007 crashes on startup

Less than a day since some Office upgrades were applied, I'm now unable to
start Outlook as it gives "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a
problem...". I've tried most workarounds (hiding .ost's, .pst's, creating a
new profile with no Mail access) but the problem persists.

I've seen other recent posts about similar crashes.

From the info sent to MS already:

OK, Safe mode seems to work (never used it before) - I need to work out what
restriction is the likely culprit.
