program compatibility

it seems xp is not compatible with many softwares.
recently i installed some play station simulators but they
failed to work. even program compatibility failed to
assist me. how do i get about this since i can't afford a
play station and hence have to play them on my pc. does it
mean i have to down grade my os. vgs and bleem fail to
work on my pc!
