Profile Problems

I have a computer that when a user logs into it, it creates a new profile
with the domain controller attached at the end of it, ie user: bob, domain:
accounting, when bob logs in, win2k creates profile bob.accounting, but the
profile should just be: bob

Subsequently, the user can not access their files, and I can't figure out
what it is doing.

When the same user logs into another computer, the profile is just bob.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening, and more importantly what
I can do to fix it?

I have seen similar problems when there is a networking problem. It can be
as simple as plugging into a different port on the hub or switch or something
bad with the punchdown of the wall jack or patch panel. Try troubleshooting
from the hardware first and see if that resolves the issue. It could
possibly be a bad network card in the computer as well.

A possibility could also be a bad hard drive. After testing the above
steps, run a chkdsk on the computer. If there are any errors on the disk,
then back up what you need off of that hard drive and replace it or be
prepared to replace it.

Good luck.

Possibly a corrupted original profile. I had the same, could not logon with
my standard profile and when I persisted, a new profile in the style you
mentioned, was created.

This is normal and expected behavior. On a newly-joined-to-the-domain PC if
you logon to the pc first, then to the domain you would end up with two
profiles.
%username%
and
%username%.%userdomain%
Else if you logon to the domain first, then to the pc you would end up with
%username%
and
%username%.%computername%

While logged as local administrator Control Panel|System|Advanced|User
Profiles and delete them both. Then have bob logon to the domain. Should
correct the issue.
