Processor changes from ACPI Multiprocessor PC to ACPI Uniprocessor

Hi all,
I have a Dell Dimension E-310 PC with Media Center Edition 2005.
BIOS = A03, 10/8/2005
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 521 (2.80GHz), 1MB L2 cache
Processor Bus Speed = 800MHz
512MB DDR2 Non ECC SDRAM at 400MHz 2X256MB Dimms
80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200rpm)
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelator 900
Integrated Audio
Intel Pro 100M Integrated PCI NIC Card
56K PCI Data Fax Modem
48X CD-RW/DVD Combination Drive

This PC will be used only for Word Processing, Email, Surfing, etc.
It does NOT have a TV card nor any other hardware not listed above.

Since MCE takes up way more HDD space as pure Win XP Pro SP2 (4.7GB versus
1.8GB), and being as how MCE has nothing of interest for me, I got a regular
copy of XP Pro SP2 and installed it on the PC after deleting everything on
the "C" drive.

The main issue with installing pure XP Pro in this manner was that in the
"Hardware" listing the computer was listed as "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"
before.

Now it comes up as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" and there are also a number of
other "Hardware" items that are missing. Some of them are "Intel" devices,
for which I have downloaded the files from the Dell web site, though they are
still causing me problems -- Can't get all the devices that were listed for
the Network adapter under MCE, to install (ie: WAN Miniport stuff).

There were also about 30 "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" that were listed under
the hardware listing of MCE that are missing under XP Pro SP2 and I have no
idea where to get them from or if they are actually needed!

There is NO "Restore (to factory default)" partition on the PC!
I tried to use the Dell supplied Reinstallation DVD of MCE 2005 (NOT the
restore disc), just to see what would happen, and lo and behold there are
missing items (drivers & other hardware), even using that disc.

Has anyone else had this problem and/or tried to reinstall MCE or XP Pro and
do you have any ideas or advice as to what I can now do??

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Anxiously awaiting your replies!!

Sincerely,
CP

So where does a hardware conflict come in....Youre switching from MCE to
XP.Now youve "deleted everything" ......Hmmm,1st.forget dell and thier
software,
if you need software updates for youre "Intel" board,go to Intel.com
2nd.Load
the xp cd,set the BIOS to boot to xp cd,at xp cd info page, select install
xp,new
copy, delete the partition, create one, then xp formats and installs
auto.....Thiers
one hitch, since youve "deleted everything",xp will require a former windows
OS
cd for the xp upgrade, unless you bought xp full version,MCE might work
otherwise
locate a 95,98,2000,or ME cd
