Problems with styles

In setting up my styles previously I used Shauna Kelly's excellent help to
set up styles with outlines. Shauna's notes are as follows "In Word 2002 and
Word 2003, choose Format > Styles and Formatting. Right-click where it says
"Heading 1", then choose Modify > Format > Numbering. (In earlier versions of
Word, choose Format > Style > Modify > Format, and choose Numbering.)

Click the Outline Numbered Tab." (Source:
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html)

My problem is that now I do not seem to get the Outline numbering tag.
Previously I added the words Chapter and Appendix into styles but again
cannot see how to do this in styles now. Hopefully I am just missing
something obvious.

Any solutions or suggestions? Thanks

Are you saying that the Outline Numbered tab is not active, that it is
greyed out, or that it is missing from the dialog box?

Thanks for responding so quickly Stefan. Unfortunately the outline number tab
is missing. Styles I had set up previously still have outline embedded in the
style (seen when select modify) but if you make the mistake, as I did, of
trying a different number style you lose that and the style only contains
numbering not outline in the style description.

Frustrating and time wasting but essential for a large document with many
chapters and Appendices.

In this case, I believe you'll have to remove numbering (click the
"None" option in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box) and then set it
up again, as explained by Shauna Kelly. To define numbering for
appendixes, see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/NumberingAppendixes.html.

In the future, if you have to change the format, make sure to change it
via the style definition (rather than applying a different format
or a different list style).
