i am using windows xp from last one month.

from last couple of days, the shut- down option is not
working propoerly.

shut-down process comes haulted at the stage when the
window appears which says "windows is shutting down".

nothing happens after that and i had to manually turn-off
the laptop(pressing on/off button).

kindly answer the question at the earliest to my e-mail
address at the earliest.

thanking you,

chetan vadia

This happened to me after I installed the EZ CD Creator
(Roxio) software on my system running Windows XP. There
is a patch for this on the Microsoft site.

Try this. When you start up use Shift pfk 8 at start up
before welcome. That will get other startup options.
Choose Safe mode. You'll get a warning about not
everything fitting reply yes. When you up and running in
safe mode. Reboot with Restart. That will save your
settings and you'll probably be ok next time you shut
