I have a HP psc 2110 all-in-one printer attached to my XP. I cannot ge
it to scan a document or print. I tried downloading a driver updat
from the net but the results were the same. When I try to scan I get
dialogue box that tell me that an "unexpected" internal error ha
accurred and prompts me to restart the program or reinstall. I hav
tried both. Any suggestions

Have you disconnected and reconnected the printer? It sounds awfully silly
and basic but it fixed the same problem for me once.

ya, you should also check the hardware to see it's properly connected
and installed. After you have confirmed it's in, remove all printers
from your computer then reboot and add a new printer. Use the most
up-to-date drivers when the message prompt shows.
Let me know how it goes,

Has this unit ever worked properly in the past? If not, you probably
"put the cart before the horse". In other words, you should NOT connect
the unit to your PC until you install the software during which you'll be
prompted when to connect it and when to turn it on.

I've done all that, rebooted, disconnected then reconnected, called
adelphia and worked with them over the phone. The printer prints but
does not scan. I suspect that i will have to upgrade my printer.
Often when one changes windows operating platforms one has to replace
virtually everything else.

I have a strong dislike of all in ones. Having said that--

If the HP2110 is connected via a USB port
You might want to try the following:
Uninstall the all in one software and drivers for the printer, scanner, and
fax.
Power down the 2110 and disconnect it from the USB port and Power.
If your keyboard and mouse use other than USB ports, You may want to try
uninstalling the the USB port and controller drivers.
Reboot, and reinstall or allow windows to reinstall the USB port and
controller drivers. (This may take two reboots to complete)
Once the USB drivers are succesfully installed, follow the instructions
given by the mfr to install the HP2110 All in One.

The mfr may have a "cleanup" utility that should be used if available. this
type of utility is generally used to cleanup registry entries mangled by the
mfrs driver install/uninstall process when things go wrong.

The reason I dislike All in Ones is that they and the associated driver and
application software is a large source of trouble. On top of that, as an all
in one gets older, the mfrs often drop support in terms of updated drivers,
etc. for all but the basic printer functions.

I had the same problem. I finally got it working by changing the
communication language (?)...On your printer dialog box, under "Printer",
choose "Properties". Go into "Advanced" tab. Then, down the bottom, click on
"Print Processor". On the right side, select a different "Default Data Type"
(I think RAW is the one I choose). This helped me and I have a HP All-In-One.
I had also been in contact with HP and they were unable to help me. Good
luck!!
