Problems with printer installation

When trying to install a new printer, I get the following message:

The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an
application request.

Any help would be very gratefully received!!

Have you read the user manual's troubleshooter section?

It might help to run the XP printer Troubleshooter.

Find out how to run it by entering *printer troubleshooter* in Help &
Support's Search box.
